Our Roots

In 1911 George Skiff and Andrew Beak founded Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards in the rolling hills of Lafayette. For over 100 years our family has put quality and innovation first, and our 1911 Established brand is no exception.

We apply the same personal touch to every bottle of our small batch premium spirits that we use to grow our apples. From “tree to bottle” the process and ingredients for all our 1911 products are controlled in-house to produce handcrafted, small batch spirits and artisanal hard ciders.

Our family continues to work just as hard as our great-great grandfathers did back in 1911 to bring quality products to market.

Our first tree went into the ground in 1911 and we haven’t stopped since. With over 350,000 trees on our family orchard in Central New York, we really mean it when we say “tree to bottle.”

In the 1940s, growing great apples wasn’t too much different than it is now.  Even today, every tree across the orchard is picked by hand.
Beak & Skiff founders George Skiff and Andrew Beak had the foresight to realize that the rolling hills of Lafayette, NY would be the perfect location to grow apples. We’d say this onion farmer and dairy farmer made a pretty good choice!
Circa 1945, our 3rd generation used small crates for storing apples. We have since moved on to large bins!

It's always been a family affair around here…even for the 4-legged members!
Today, like the generations before, it’s the people that make what we do possible.   Our cider hand Luke is just one of many folks who contribute to our success.
Today our Apple Hill Campus is not only home to apple-picking memories for generations of local families, but also the home of our 1911 Tasting Room.  Don’t be surprised if you see 3rd generation Marshall Skiff poking around checking on us!
